While the battle between Samsung and Apple has been waging on in court systems around the world, Samsung decided to take the battle to your living room. The Verge has discovered that the same girl who stars in the latest Apple 4S commercial is now featured in a Galaxy Tab 8.9 commercial in South Korea.

At the core of the feud between the two companies is Apple’s claim that Samsung is copying the style and design of the iPhone/iPad and iOS in general. We can’t help but think the company hired the actress with the sole purpose of annoying Apple in a public, but legal, way. Whether public opinion will take their side remains to be seen, but Samsung has definitely upped the ante in the battle.

Talk of an Apple 10th retail anniversary event has resurfaced, with new leaks potentially pointing to a significant product launch to mark the occasion on Thursday, May 19. Apple had been tipped to be readying a birthday celebration after news of staff holiday black-outs leaked last month; now, according to BGR‘s “solid” source, Apple stores have apparently “already received hardware to install” with more tipped to arrive on Friday and Saturday. Installation is expected to take place overnight on Saturday, with 10-15 staff at each store on a top-secret, NDA-protected late shift.

The nature of the hardware they’ll be installing is unclear, and the range of roles expected to take part doesn’t give us much to go on. According to the source, “all visuals staff, a manager, a business team member, a few Genius team members, one back-of-house employee, and a few generic Apple specialists” will be called upon, working while the store windows are covered with black curtains so as to preserve the surprise.

The rest of the staff will get mandatory Sunday morning training sessions, with Apple corporate sending out multi-gigabyte scale training packages in password-protected folders. They’ll be accessible on Saturday afternoon, when Apple follows up with the passwords themselves.

Last month, it was suggested that Apple could be readying some sort of Black Friday style discount day or hosting public events, rather than launching a new product. It’s still unclear whether the hardware that has been distributed to stores is demo hardware or something to be used for that style of event.

Apple filed a patent filing suggesting it may be considering 3D image and video recording technology for a new iPhone, signaling the company’s intentions to compete with Android handsets on new technology.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company filed an application titled “Systems and Methods for an Imaging System Using Multiple Image Sensors” this week with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent details the potential for an iPhone to use two cameras to make 3D videos and pictures.
The system would be based on hardware instead of software, which could make for better image quality, according to language in the patent application. Instead of software that guesses dimensional disparity, Apple would use “deterministic calculation for stereo disparity compensation,” according to the application.
Adding 3D capabilities on the iPhone will mostly likely help Apple compete with Android handsets, which have started to ramp up their processing and image capabilities with better cameras and wider screens. While 3D media is not widespread, more and more film and TV offerings are hitting the market with the capability, perhaps indicating that its moment may be ripe to hit the mainstream soon.
Some 3D handsets have already hit the market. The HTC EVO 3D for Sprint and the LG Thrill 4G for AT&T both feature 3D recording. Both handsets integrate two 5.0-megapixel cameras to make HD and 3D videos and pictures. These phones can show 3D images on their displays without requiring special glasses to see the effect.
Nintendo also recently rolled out its 3DS portable handheld game console, which also brings 3D to games without special equipment as well.
