Sony’s personal 3D Viewer, the HMZ-T1, a wearable head mounted display for viewing movies or playing video games in 3D-enabled High Definition. Features equipped with a pair of 0.7-inch pair of OLED panels(1280 x 720) that are meant to reproduce the sensation of watching a 750-inch screen in 3D from 20 meters away, and a built-in 5.1 surround sound in the headphones. It will first be available in Japan this November for $600.

3D video and still image recording capability

Apple filed a patent filing suggesting it may be considering 3D image and video recording technology for a new iPhone, signaling the company’s intentions to compete with Android handsets on new technology.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company filed an application titled “Systems and Methods for an Imaging System Using Multiple Image Sensors” this week with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent details the potential for an iPhone to use two cameras to make 3D videos and pictures.
The system would be based on hardware instead of software, which could make for better image quality, according to language in the patent application. Instead of software that guesses dimensional disparity, Apple would use “deterministic calculation for stereo disparity compensation,” according to the application.
Adding 3D capabilities on the iPhone will mostly likely help Apple compete with Android handsets, which have started to ramp up their processing and image capabilities with better cameras and wider screens. While 3D media is not widespread, more and more film and TV offerings are hitting the market with the capability, perhaps indicating that its moment may be ripe to hit the mainstream soon.
Some 3D handsets have already hit the market. The HTC EVO 3D for Sprint and the LG Thrill 4G for AT&T both feature 3D recording. Both handsets integrate two 5.0-megapixel cameras to make HD and 3D videos and pictures. These phones can show 3D images on their displays without requiring special glasses to see the effect.
Nintendo also recently rolled out its 3DS portable handheld game console, which also brings 3D to games without special equipment as well.

CHICAGO — Playboy readers who can only imagine what it would look like if a centerfold jumped right off the page are getting new specs to help them see into Hef’s world. The magazine’s June edition hits newsstands Friday equipped with 3-D glasses. Now the toy that has kids dodging dragons, meatballs and tall blue aliens at the movies will help adults focus on what is, at first glance, a very blurry Playmate of the Year.

“What would people most like to see in 3-D?” asked Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. “Probably a naked lady.”

Hefner makes no secret of hoping to capitalize on the popularity of 3-D movies such as “Avatar” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” even as he makes no secret of not quite getting what all the fuss is about.

“I’m not a huge enthusiast of 3-D,” he said in a telephone interview. “I leave real life to go to the movies and 2-D is fine with me.”

If the thought of grown men sitting back in their recliners with a pair of 3-D glasses doesn’t quite say “Playboy,” it should be noted that a few months ago the magazine put Marge Simpson – yes, the blue-haired animated mother of Bart – on the cover and in a two-page centerfold.

“In today’s print environment you have to create newsstand events,” said the editorial director of the Chicago-based magazine, Jimmy Jellinek. “Marge Simpson was one of those.”

Playboy certainly must do something to get more people, especially younger people, to buy a magazine that has seen circulation plummet from 3.15 million in 2006 to 1.5 million today.

Jellinek said he hopes the issue featuring centerfold Hope Dworaczyk in 3-D also reminds people that for all the infatuation with the Internet, there is nothing quite like having a magazine in your hands.

“People want things that last and have meaning,” he said.

Rapelay is a 3D sex simulation game developed by Illusion. It was released on April 21, 2006 in Japan. The game consists of an improved 3D engine, and is mainly played through moving the mouse in an circular motion and using the wheel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Italian director Tinto Brass said Thursday that he’s ready to create the world’s first 3-D porno flick. You might remember Brass from his infamous 1979 film ‘Caligula,’ which was set in ancient Rome and featured graphic sex scenes (incest, cheating, and a giant killing machine) that ruffled many feathers. So what’s the premise behind this 3-D porn? Brass says it’ll “revisit an abandoned project about a Roman emperor that was ruined by Americans, and go from there.” Sounds like he’ll really be stretching his creative muscles with this one. Brass says he’ll write the script and cast the film as soon as possible, and he hopes to begin filming in May or June. (Gore Vidal, feel up to the task?)

Not only would this be the first 3-D porno, but it’d be the first 3-D movie of any kind made in Italy. Italians always do know how to do a movie right. Where America put its 3-D stock in an overblown film about blue people on another planet, Brass sticks to a subject that will surely endure time — erotic, ancient Romans having crazy sex in 3-D.
